Egypt and Jordan

Tour length: Two weeks.
Tour size: 6 max.

Day 1: Arrive in Cairo. Check into your hotel and meet the rest of your group. Try local food and explore the nightlife.

Hotel: Hotel Grand Royal Cairo or similar.

Day 2: Visit the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, Saqqara Complex and Memphis.

Day 3: Coptic and Islamic Cairo – historic areas within Cairo central to the two main faiths of Egypt. Afternoon museums or free time.

Day 4: Fly to Aswan, check into your hotel and spend the afternoon at the Philae Temple. Swim in the Nile if you’re game.

Hotel: Nubian Popeye or Similar.

Day 5: An early morning trip to Abu Simbel, afterwards exploring the Nubian Village and Aswan itself. In the evening, take a felucca ride on the Nile.

Day 6: Take private transport from Aswan to Luxor, stopping at Edfu Temple on the way. Check into your hotel and have free time in the afternoon.

Hotel: Susanna Hotel or similar.

Day 7: An early start to visit the Valley of the Kings, the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, Temple of Amon and the Colossi of Memnon. Options for the afternoon include the Mummification Museum and Luxor Museum.

Day 8: An early start to visit the Karnak Temple before leaving Egypt and flying to Amman, Jordan. Check into hotel and free time.

Hotel: Beirut Hotel or similar.

Day 9: Explore Amman – the old town, markets, museums and Roman and other ruins.

Day 10: We will take private transport to visit Jerash, the biggest and best preserved Roman ruins outside of Italy. Swim (float) in the Dead Sea and end the day in Kerak, home of the largest crusader castle in Jordan.

Hotel: Kerak Guest House or similar.

Day 11: Spend the day exploring the ancient city of Petra. Stay the night in Wadi Musa.

Hotel: Venus Hotel or similar.

Day 12: Leave Wadi Musa and drive to Aqaba to swim in the Gulf of Aqaba, a branch of the Red Sea. In the afternoon join the 1916 Train Adventure in Wadi Rum. In the evening, take a 4WD tour before enjoying Bedouin hospitality sleeping in the desert.

Hotel: Taj Wadi Rum Desert Camp

Day 13: On the way back to Amman, stop in Madaba to see the mosaics at the Apostles Church. Finish the day in Amman.

Hotel: Beirut Hotel or similar.

Day 14: Depart Amman and head home, or extend your trip to a neighbouring country like Israel, Turkey or Cyprus.

Cost: $3250 (Australian Dollars)

Includes: Egyptian Visa and Jordan Pass (includes visa), all museum/site entry fees, breakfasts, all transport and accommodation.

Does not include: Flights to Cairo or from Amman, or transfers to/from either airport. We can arrange for you.

Incidentals: It is worth bringing American dollars with you. This can be converted into local currency for snacks and souvenirs, but some things are better paid for in USD in Egypt.

Physical expectation: This is a relatively physically easy tour – but there is a bit of walking and it can be seasonally hot, especially in southern Egypt and southern Jordan. You will need to drink a lot of water.
